Striking a Balance: Peace Mediation and Human Rights

On Monday 3rd October the London Transitional Justice Network & Human Rights Consortium Transitional Justice Seminar Series held a seminar with Katia Papagianni and Francesc Vendrell.

Katia Papagianni is head of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue’s Mediation Support Programme. Before joining the HD Centre, she worked for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UNDP.

Francesc Vendrell was the EU special representative for Afghanistan, 2002-2008, and the UN secretary general's personal representative for Afghanistan, 2000-2001.

Lessons for the Arab Spring:   What Past Experience in Accountability can tell us about the Region's Future

On June 29th 2011, the London Transitional Justice Network, together with the Open Society Foundation, hosted a panel discussion on the potential impact of transitional justice strategies in transitions across the Middle East and North Africa.  Priscilla Hayner, transitional justice expert based in Geneva, and Anthony Dworkin, Senior Policy Fellow, European Council on Foreign Relations led a discussion with the members of the London Transitional Justice Network.  Priscilla Hayner has recently published a 2nd edition of Unspeakable Truths: Transitional Justice and the Challenge of Truth Commissions.
